Is spending money on swag an effective marketing strategy for a start up in general? Or does the nature of the start up, and cost/utility/quality of the swag item dictate that?

Guess it depends on the target market. Engineering recruiting is very expensive, usually cost few tens of thousands of dollars. Clearing Triplebyte's interview shows the candidate is very hirable, so it's worth giving them a great exp and make them come back next time.
