This is sad in itself, but its second-order effects on entire ecosystems would be immense. The larger problem is the "free" bounty from nature that we take for granted, upon which our modern economy is built.

The worrying part really is how people will react to the necessary readjustment of our lifestyle and economy. Our growth expectation from economies and companies is unsustainable, and climate change is a symptom of it. We need to make consuming less and not growing cool.
