One strange consequence of looking far into startups' futures is that I sometimes realize two YC startups currently doing completely different things will, if they do them well enough, end up competing.

In a super efficient world, isn’t everyone in everyone’s business eventually?
Things have been heading that way (e.g. Apple vs Google, Tesla vs Uber) but I'd be reluctant to say companies' origins impose no limits. E.g. I don't see companies working on cancer cures ending up competing with those working on self-driving cars.

I think it’s the platform. On a smartphone, a cab ride to a loan to food delivery to watching content is all like API now. In China bytedance already does lending on its content platform and WeChat probably is the largest OTA. Super efficient world reduces # of players involved.

Until efficiencies create inefficiencies. People thought Conglomerates were a great idea, until they weren't. If you want to be hyperbolic, a "world government" for example, either sounds extremely efficient, or insane.
