There's a place in the US with a *very* similar spirit: Nantucket. (I'm sure there are other towns in New England that are like that.) It is only possible because of decades of preservation efforts and zoning constraints.

I’d say this was nostalgically beautiful, built for a time we do not inhabit. On a recent trip back to Bath, I got the distinct impression that the UK was stuck in time, & planning laws are keeping it that way compared to eg Belgium which has very progressive housing architecture
I don't like the term "nostalgically beautiful" as if to somehow undermine it. It's mainly cars and bad regulations that prevent places like this from still being built and most people would not find that progressive Belgian architecture as more beautiful than this.
Major reason for its attractiveness: notice there is NO on-street parking.

So many aspects of this street would make it impossible to build now. Minimum front and side setback requirements, minimum parking requirements, minimum lot sizes, minimum street widths, paving not ADA compliant, objects protruding over the sidewalk, and on and on
