One strange consequence of looking far into startups' futures is that I sometimes realize two YC startups currently doing completely different things will, if they do them well enough, end up competing.

Not yet, that I know of. This is the sort of convergence that happens at "unicorn" sizes, and IIRC there are only around 20 of those.
