It would probably be worthwhile to design cities to encourage this: to design cities to be fast to get around by bicycle. How do you do that? We know how to encourage cycling in an existing city. But if you were designing a new city to be optimal to cycle in, what would you do?https://twitter.com/asymco/status/1118530522144235521 …

Twice as many Copenhageners cite speed as the reason to cycle vs. cost. (53% vs. 27%). And that’s still with few eBikes in use.

Pleasant cycling paths which are not shared at all with cars.

As few roads as possible. That may well mean: no roads.

How about a cycle-only city? You know how some areas in some cities are closed for pedestrians only. I'd love to see some bike-only lanes in these the same way we treat cars. And we will, I'm sure of it

But honestly, after spending time in Amsterdam, I believe the #1 necessity is protected bike lanes. Then people cycle more, and it becomes a flywheel.
