Interesting. Seems like there’s both supply and demand factors? On the supply side, you have smartphones, more mature web tech like Stripe/Shopify/open source libraries and more bandwidth. On the demand side, both a larger and more mature customer base.

One of the biggest hyped up failures was Webvan. Is the difference caused by smartphones? Seems like it just took time for people to adjust their habits and lifestyles.

Yeah that was what I was thinking. People weren’t used to shopping online, and the amount of pages required to build a grocery cart must have been painful on dialup.
