Universities are backing themselves into a dangerous corner by becoming more expensive at the same time they're becoming less necessary.

I think unless you are accepting a blue collar life or in the extremely rare category of people that drop out and become successful based on intelligence/grit, then they are necessary. Underestimating the demand curve here.

Successful college dropouts are not rare in Silicon Valley. The current president of Y Combinator is one.

True, but I assumed your original tweet is making a generalization for universities across the US, not just in Silicon Valley.
