Tuitions have increased because demand is inelastic (up to a point) and because of a government-sponsored credit bubble. Meanwhile the median startup no longer cares whether programmers they hire have degrees at all, let alone from where.

Credit bubble sure .. but clearly you must see how state funding of universities has collapsed. It's a complex problem and just reducing it to a single talking point does us all a disservice.
