Real answer: Be born into a socioeconomically well-off family... Our socioeconomic status contributes a lot to our future success. Having good ideas and hard work only matters if you have access to opportunities and resources. #inequalityhttps://twitter.com/paulg/status/1109897564973871106 …

Me: If a friend asked how to get rich, what would you tell them? 6 yo: Do something nobody else has done. Don't copy ideas. And make something lots of people actually want.

If you were right it would be really easy to be an investor.

I'm not sure what you mean. I agree it's not easy to be a good investor, but most people don't have the opportunity or resources to become an investor at all.

He meant: if you were right, investing would be really easy because investor like YC can just pick founders from “well-off” family since they are destined to become rich and successful.

Successful startups are already rare, and I'm pretty sure the startups we or YC sees and ones that end up successful are definitely biased toward the population that's socioeconomically well off. I'm happy to see substantive data to the contrary.

How much do you weight founders' socioeconomic status when making investment decisions at Dell Capital?

Paul- Such biases are typically expressed through proxy variables.

Sure, but if he thinks it's one of the most important predictors of success, surely as a professional investor he'd consider it explicitly as well.

This is not my personal opinion. Research and data have shown this: https://www.apa.org/pi/ses/resources/publications/education … You asked a question about how to get rich, and I gave you an answer based on data. You are most likely to get rich if you come a socioeconomically well-off background.
