I just picked up White's _Medieval Technology and Social Change_ and found to my delight that I've forgotten it well enough to read it again. Now if only I could forget Wodehouse.

Ah!! I've recently re-read the book and two parts struck me: 1 Crossbow trade-off question 2 Development of chimneys affecting development of concept privacy (and private reading, studying) (Went straight on to read 'At Home', which provides even more info, and is fun!!)

I love 'At Home." Aside from it being fascinating on its own merits, it becomes particularly poignant when you are living the process in reverse.
