One of the biggest differences between now and the past is how rapidly ideas become money. Now ideas can become money as soon as you put them on a server and set up credit card processing. (And cryptocurrency may soon eliminate the second step.)

That's exactly it. If people didn't fear being impoverished due to low income, they wouldn't care all that much how rich some people are/can get. Most people just want to make enough to live comfortably. Hard to care what the 1% make when you're satisfied with your life.

Back to the original point of your post though, while I have you: What do you think is the best/next evolution of tools or platforms that turn ideas into money? What could we do aside from sell things or use ads? Would help validate

But to what extent can you separate poverty from income inequality? ‘Poverty’ is determined by what other people have. E.g., internet access is not necessary to survive, but try living without it if most other people have it.

As times progress and society raises the baseline of what is needed to subsist in that society, the threshold for 'survival' moves upwards as well. Ex: poverty in America is still a problem even though the poorest people here are able to survive far easier than poor elsewhere
