Agreed, and would add that power dynamics play an important role. An authority figure being tentative is more likely to be interpreted as confidence or thoughtfullness. When someone who is more junior does it, it’s more likely to be interpreted as weakness or incompetence.

Exactly to the point. Being tentative when appropriate requires confidence in the face of potentially uncharitable interpretation by others.
