Watch how "Startups in 13 Sentences" got written. I wrote it using an editor written by a YC startup called Stypi, and replay was one of its features. The text with yellow background will eventually be deleted. http://byronm.com/13sentences.html …

It was an interesting experience, but I decided afterward that I wouldn't want to write everything this way. It made me reluctant to take risks when I knew everything I typed would eventually get seen.

Which is a good counterargument incidentally to people who say "why do you need privacy if you've done nothing wrong?" Anyone who does any kind of creative work has something to hide: their early drafts.

Pretty sure you wrote it in Etherpad(???) Stypi didn't exist until 2011, according to Crunchbase. I really liked the replay feature, and IIRC showed your essay being written to many people, first on the Etherpad site, and later on Stypi.

Yipes, you may be right. The Stypis may have ported it from Etherpad. Sorry Etherpads. That's what happens when you fund the same idea repeatedly.

For me personally, it was helpful to watch. You're a prolific writer and I enjoy many of your pieces. Seeing how many times you need to edit a piece makes writing feel a bit more accessible. Helpful for a person that feels like their writing skills aren't up to snuff.

This is awesome. Watching the thought process evolve, no, develop

I built a similar tool for code: https://ourcodestories.com/markm208/Playlist/All … The differences are the ability to add comments about the evolution of the code and to add pics, screenshots, and video to the comments. These work best on a big screen. Use the >> button to move from comment to comment.

I use these in place of textbooks for the CS courses I teach. I have 'books' on C++, Python, Clojure, React, and more. I am looking for feedback! I want them to be used by developers to make professional portfolios that allow them to guide others through their thought processes.

That's probably the first thing I read from you. Saw it posted a while ago on HN. Thanks for all the essays, they are amazing!
