I'm not against increasing taxes. There are certainly things that need fixing. What I dislike is raising taxes for the sake of raising taxes. That's as bad as the Republicans cutting taxes for the sake of cutting taxes.

It isn’t though, because cutting taxes is politically extremely self-serving for a politician. It is literally the laziest way to run for re-election as a politician, quite close to paying people to vote for you.
Sure, but increasing the taxes paid by people who aren't your supporters and promising to spend the proceeds on your supporters is similarly close to paying people to vote for you, and has been quite common historically.
