"You don’t have to start the next Facebook”. Actually, this is bullshit. One company started each year willl be more consequential than the rest combined. There’s no point shooting for, or celebrating irrelevancy.

Yeah, founders can't diversify. On the other hand, if all a founder cares about is maximizing the expected value of their impact, their math must be remarkably similar to VCs.
It's well known that startups's valuations have a steep power law distribution, because those numbers are known. The distribution of impact may not be as steep. My guess is that it isn't. But it's such a vague concept that you could probably never know.

And ironically if Mark Zuckerberg was concerned about building a billion dollar business from the start instead of what actually interested him, he wouldn't have started Facebook.
