Not being able to purchase things in app because of Apple’s required fees is the most annoying part of the entire Apple ecosystem

It's a sign of a monopoly that wants to be broken. Everyone's frustration about this is the water behind a dam. When the first cracks appear, that pressure will burst the dam open. The good news is, that pressure could be used to accelerate a new startup.
Incidentally, the new startup will probably not have been started explicitly to compete with Apple. That's not how these things happen. They'll have been started a year or two before, to do something adjacent, and then surf the wave caused by the bursting dam.

A testament to Apple’s monopolized strength that it hasn’t burst open already. Also, a testament to Amazon’s, Netflix’s strength that they can go around it with significant user experience impact and still keep and even grow users.
