Not being able to purchase things in app because of Apple’s required fees is the most annoying part of the entire Apple ecosystem

Incidentally, the new startup will probably not have been started explicitly to compete with Apple. That's not how these things happen. They'll have been started a year or two before, to do something adjacent, and then surf the wave caused by the bursting dam.

A testament to Apple’s monopolized strength that it hasn’t burst open already. Also, a testament to Amazon’s, Netflix’s strength that they can go around it with significant user experience impact and still keep and even grow users.

That’s one of the ways in which PayPal got mass adoption by eBay users. They provided a simpler (cheaper?) way to transact and users used it instead of eBay‘s own payment system.

@lightning will break this monopoly 100%. The harder apple tries to ban apps with in-app@lightning payments, the more incentive for competition to sell less locked down devices .
