At this point the YC partners are thinking "Noooo! Thousands more applications for collaboration apps!" Collaboration apps are indeed the base state of YC applications. But maybe that's because everyone senses there's something to be discovered here.

We need a space with idea-diaries for people. I've so many "What if we could _______" - eliminate food with pills, a controllable biological operating system for humans... It's always interesting to find and know more people thinking/wanting those things.

In particular, the earliest collaboration technologies are religion and the nation state: they maximize social welfare by realigning incentives to enable collective action (and to disincentivize us from murdering each other :) ). Then come the telegraph, cryptography, facebook.
