Starting from the most abstract principles is a good way to relearn something, but a bad way to learn something.

As far as I'm concerned the bigger the abstraction the more details it hides. So, sorry, but no.

You connect new dots the second time around (and third.. and fourth..) this is currently manifesting itself as I'm re-teaching myself a proper golf swing

Learn new things by connecting it with something familiar. This way, the distance between the new and old learning is close. With abstract learning, the brain has to start from scratch. There is no existing knowledge to latch onto.

That's why some teachers teach starting from abstract principles. They actually relearn the subject.

That would be a great experience for the teachers, but a bad one for their students.

I'm finding it better to use analogies and case studies to help learners connect the dots.

Have you ever written an essay on learning in general? Particularly learning software development/becoming a better developer?

When learning new things, it's more productive to start with a specific usecases/examples/applications, things that are visible and tangible, then disect the characteristics and learn which of them hold true as you generalize it.

Yes! This is what is wrong with much comp. sci. and I suspect why @LambdaSchool is just killing it (but not sure since I’ve not audited anything by them, but if they’re pumping out products by week 4...)
