Agreed, there's a lot going on.
There is a tremendous growth in total global gdp. Particularly starting with early 2000's. This is one of the reasons why global companies reach this scale much easier.

The population growth has significantly slowed down in the US, it doesn't seem to affect the trend. Perhaps it would be helpful to compare it with similar data for Chinese companies.
(Near) meaningless chart and topic. Example Amerisource in particular and many others formed by mergers. Amazon had the luxury of losing money for the majority of those years (sell a dollar for less than a dollar adds up quickly).
How do we know ownership stakes are increasing? Would it change if we exclude Alphabet and FB?
