The worst thing to seem to investors is borderline promising. If a startup is obviously promising, you'll raise money easily. If it's obviously unpromising, you'll get an immediate no. But if it's borderline promising, the no will come after sucking up months of your attention.

Or just ask one of the YC partners. Or you

Given what you said above, you should know you're borderline promising because you don't get an immediate yes or no.

I think what Paul G is talking about is the case where you are pitching a set of investors for the first time, though not necessarily your first round. So those investors are not there to be encouraging or be active, they are there to make an investment decision.

From hard experience, continuing to engage but not investing for an extended period is a reasonably strong sign of ‘bordelineyness’.

"borderline promising/unpromising" can be a case of miscommunication. We building a startup it's sometimes very hard to put it in simple words. Make sure you get 30min of the investor's attention and iterate on the message until it takes you only 30 sec to explain

The best thing to do in that case is: 1. Cese de usurpación. 2. Gobierno de transición 3. Elecciones libres.

the hard part as a founder is knowing that a vc has no incentive to be transparent with you, and they are more likely to be falsely positive because it serves them, and not being able to do anything about it. it’s on area where founder optimism isn’t helpful
