That's true. He's from the older generation, where starting a startup was way less common. But I think he'd start one if he were young now.
"Be a founder" is for would-be VCs what "Learn to code" is for would-be founders. Advice that's both straightforward and guaranteed to be worth the effort, yet many shrink from because of the work involved.

Too much focus on building product, such a "build it and they will come" approach of 20th century. We need more focus on designing and building experiments quickly and cheaply to test hypotheses. Founders should learn those skills.
