which blogs do you still trust?

Different ones on different topics obviously, but I'd trust e.g. Ask The Pilot over the NYT on airliners.http://www.askthepilot.com/

As a professional pilot with 20 years experience and having flown 737s. My opinion is that the article is quite good. It seems the pilots didn’t follow the “runaway stabilizer” procedure that they should have used when the plane behaves this way(new sys installed or not).

That's a strong endorsement when an independent expert in the field can vouch for it. I don't understand the scepticism of NYT. They're like the Google of journalism, everyone wants to work there so they get to pick the best of the best journalists.

Sometimes I wonder it the News media/institutions have gotten worse or if our expectations and access to specific sources have gotten better?

Part of this is fanatical blog specialisation, but the other part is just NYT "that'll pull some clicks"

The first point is pretty serious. Wikipedia and the blogosphere has nurtured the ecosystem of hard core single-issue geeks. No paper could possibly employ them all.
