If schools were good at teaching such things, sure. But the "if" clause is why I'm skeptical of such lists. Subjects I was "taught" in school I hated. It took me years to overcome my dislike of biology, for instance. Things I learnt outside school, like math & writing, I loved
For me this is so high res it extends to individual books. Thank God my English teachers had such bad (or more precisely, conventional) taste, or a lot more books would have been ruined for me.

Hmm...I definitely hated maths until I learned it outside of school, but I loved English at school, in part because of a few great teachers who treated us like humans, and I still love reading and writing (although I tend to analyse fewer Shakespeare plays :P)...

Funny coincidence: I was bored by Shakespeare (see above) until one of Australia's best Shakespearian actors visited the school, & spent a few hours riffing on Shakespeare w/ the students. He loved it & was a master of it. Made it easy to see the best of Shakespeare was amazing
