IMO a bigger difference is the inclination to borrow or not. French seems much less inclined to borrow (and issue a translation) than English, for example.

Wrong. So many words in French borrowed from English. Weekend. Shampoing. Parking. Chewing-gum. Digital. Leader. Email. Jogging. T-shirt. Etc. And even more used by younger generation.
