The best fundraising method is 1. Know the space better than the VCs 2. Achieve results faster than the “silicon valley standard” 3. Believe in yourself and your team - as a founder you are always investor #1https://twitter.com/paulg/status/1090180727315070976 …

The more successful the founder, the less they tend to know about fundraising technique. E.g. Zuck has only had to raise money a few times, and every time investors were already eager to give him money.

      0. Be profitable, so you don't actually need to raise money.

true - but building silicon valley teams is hard especially when founders have no previous exits to sustain. but that is the true goal for sure. 🔥🔥👊👊

Then don't build in Silicon Valley. The planet has a land area of 57,500 sq. miles, why limit yourself to the most expensive 46

because that’s where 80% of the tier 1 vcs are. They made it from the internet boom and stuck around.

it’s hard to build a product without any money. it’s hard to get a paying customer without any product. at least imo.

Depends on the product. Facebook probably cost in the hundreds, if not tens, of dollars to get rolling, whereas Boom will have to raise tens if not hundreds of millions.

Absolutely. But even if it costs hundreds of dollars, the engineers have to be paid a bare minimum wage. And that's the reason for a seed round - raise a seed round for 2-3 engineers to work for a year establish product market fit with the CEO and maybe a Head of BD/VP of Sales

The engineers don't have to be paid anything if they're you, which is part of the reason startups started by technical people do better.
