When I do this, I don't edit what he writes. It's his story. I'm just transcribing it. So the most I'll do, if he mangles a sentence so badly that it's not even something he'd say, is repeat the first half out loud as I'm typing, and let him finish it again.

This is one of the things Keith Johnstone describes doing with his "unteachable" class in his excellent book "Impro".

I tried something similar but with me making a game. I couldn't keep up with his demands for what the game should do as I was learning the framework. Ended up using the tilemap editor to design the game instead. Worked out better :D

I did it with my younger daughter. I asked her to tell me her favourite bedtime stories. (Three little pigs, etc.) It was helluva fun reading out loud later ;)
