The more successful the founder, the less they tend to know about fundraising technique. E.g. Zuck has only had to raise money a few times, and every time investors were already eager to give him money.

The less they tend to know about everything else. They just know their startup.

Dunno: maybe a U curve. A lot of founders who know nothing about fundraising technique and struggle in general, and many unicorn founders who are deft fundraisers. One Zuck does not a straight line make.

Agreed that all four quadrants have some datapoints. founders who are skilled at fundraising and have stellar p-m fit are likely to raise too much money...

The ultimate fundraising technique is outlandish market traction..successful founders often get that right ;)

This generalizes to a lot of things. The more attractive, the less they know about dating. The more clever, the less they know about strategizing.

What is the point of knowing when they don't need it?

On the other hand he was very careful with the investment terms (to keep control of the company)

The intersection between most successful players and most successful coaches is practically zero.

I agree with the sentiment, but we should probably stop using Zuckerberg as the canonical example of a good founder. It’s like using Trump as an example of a successful politician

Weirdly, Zuck’s example is why so many founders learn about it in the first place.
