Of course higher tax rates per se are not class war, any more than deportations per se are culture war. But e.g. naming specific people you want to deport, in order to excite your supporters, is culture war. And naming people you want to tax, for the same reason, is class war.
The more extreme Democrats don't start from the idea that the US needs more money and conclude taxing the rich is the way to get it. They start from the idea of taxing the rich, as something good in itself. Those aren't points on a slippery slope. They're qualitatively different.

Taxing the super rich at death is good. Society is made worse by large inherited wealth. Lots of historical examples.
