Disgusted by the Republicans' adventures in culture war, the Democrats now propose to give us... class war. Hard to say which the historical precedents are worse for. The 20th century was basically a hard-fought tie in that respect.

Paul, you're a brilliant well-respected guy, the policy discussion these days is about **marginal** rates. Attached is the top marginal rates.....pic.twitter.com/a4NC3GNOxB

Yes, I get that. And those high rates were accompanied by huge tax loopholes. Result: the actual amount of tax paid paid by the rich was lower than you'd expect, roughly the same as today. https://twitter.com/search?src=typd&q=%40paulg%20porous …

Normal people are earning as much as in 1975 while the cost of housing, education, and healthcare is skyrocketing:https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_wages#/media/File%3AUnited_States_real_wages_(red%2C_in_constant_2017_dollars).png …

Call me crazy, but those bonus billions going to the top .01% are better spent on infrastructure, climate change, healthcare, and education!

The top tax bracket would be hitting the .1% not the 1%. Do you have numbers for that?
-
Numbers presumably exist, but I don't have them. However, since the difference between the official and effective rate was due to tax avoidance, and the .1% can hire highly skilled experts to help them in this department, I predict the difference was as great or greater.
