It is an extremely rare magazine article that would not be improved by cutting the first several paragraphs. My first step when reading any magazine article is finding the actual beginning.

I shadowed a reporter once who mentioned that they would put most of the information in the first paragraph and then go into more details because people are skimming and often don't get past the first couple paragraphs.

It's a good model 'Tell them what you're going to tell them, tell them, then tell them what you told them' at least for things you want to communicate very clearly and directly

I think pg is just saying to skip straight to the “tell them”... no “tell them what you’re gonna tell em” needed
