Though they may not say so explicitly, I think that's what bothers people about the Gillette ad. They're being talked down to, and moreover by people who are unlikely to be in any position to, unless the ad industry has recently become a bastion of saintliness.

So is there a basic universal threshold of morality we all can agree on?
-
A few people say there is. Closest I am aware of is the non aggression principle and some reasoning deriving from that. But that is not really universal - not least of all because "starting agression" doesn't mean the same for every culture.

Not necessarily. Drawing attention to superior morality doesn't mean one observes it.

The best advice is to never give advice. The second best advice is to preface everything with, “Do as I say, not as I do.” Seems to cover all bases.

Is it possible to make collective decisions (eg. what government should spend money on) without an exchange of ideas on what is moral?

Morality is a shared understanding. Unless we share it with each other, we will not have a common understanding. And sometimes, we all sound a little preaching (pointing no fingers).

Fair point, but let’s not forget this is a billion dollar company hiring a million dollar ad agency to make a statement for them that they hope will enhance their brand and sales. Not sure the public wishes these to be the arbitrators of and disseminators of moral messaging.
