One reason Americans are suspicious of socialism is the kind of people who'd be in charge of everything, in America, if the government were in charge of everything.

I've got my concerns about the kind of people who are and will be in charge of everything in China, too. The problems with the people who are in charge of everything are pretty universal.

It greatly varies in intensity. Northern Europe, Switzerland, have greater trust and overall deserve a lot of that trust. That explains why government there has been able to set up socialist programs like high minimum wage, universal healthcare, long parental leave.

So is it a valid concern, or should we just try to move along to democratic socialism? If it is a valid concern, how is it fixed?

That's also the reason they should be suspicious of capitalism

Why? The basis of capitalistic market power is rooted in competence

There is a middle. Some social programs without going whole-hog for a total socialist system of Government. The way you phrase it is one of fear, not clear thinking of options that may work better than what is in existence today. Medicare for All is one such social change.

Where? Sometimes seems like Americans believe Socialism is the same as Communism.

If you make a list of what’s bad about socialism that argument would be lowest in importance why you should be suspicious

In principle maybe, but it’s a big difference between countries.
