Ouch! I hope there were no serious scratches. That's not a bad idea though, get the kids to like archaeology and then place a "digsite" on our iced up windshields... (and give them the proper "tools" of course...). I've had one too many "ice lvl 100" moments.

PSA: six-year-olds who aren't interested in archaeology will also do this... and other unexpected things that leverage available dirt, wood, rocks, kitchen utensils.

For instance, anybody who assumed a six-year-old wouldn't or couldn't dig out a large flagstone paver from a house sidewalk, using nothing more than spoons and sticks, would be mistaken. As for flipping the stone out and over—they find idle 10-year-olds.
