It's not so much that I care about public *perception.* E.g. I know there are lots of people who hate some caricature of me they've invented, and that doesn't bother me. What matters, when I think about it, is whether anyone is trolling me at this particular moment.
Maybe it shouldn't. Maybe it's just "someone on the internet is wrong." This stuff is all so new that customs for dealing with it haven't settled.

I can imagine it matters because he enjoys having discussions. Trolls are parasitic in this way. Are they a troll purposefully wasting his time, or are they just an honest different viewpoint, and he should engage? Hard to say who is who
