The product that wins is not necessarily the absolute best, but rubs elbows with the best. Good enough, and then win at marketing, branding, distribution, etc. You have to shoot for best to accomplish good enough.

of course. they suffer from the airline app problem: controlling the distro channel or other critical platform for a given good incentivizes minimum effort solutions to design and produce that good, resulting in a piss-poor product.
