My 10 year old son reminds me of this a lot. Often by being "annoying". And then once he has my attention, he might find my standards "annoying." There's another word for this dance...LOVE. Real love.

So true. Parenting is the only role in the world where you become an instant superhero to someone. However, to keep that title you need to listen, ask questions, participate, embrace and truly care. Great parents are one of the best gifts a child can ever receive.

You did this in office hours too and made us *all* feel like your kiddies at scale :) you would genuinely care about understanding the problem we were solving and very rarely approved of the approach we were taking at the time. But that didn’t matter just the caring was enough
