The Patreon boycott seems to be serious enough that there's room for a competitor. I know at least one organization that would switch not as a statement, but just because they've lost so much revenue.

Tech monopolies are overrated. People confuse network effect and critical mass. At the beginning of an industry, the network effect deprive your competitors from having a critical mass and you win.

There’s no room for a competitor because Stripe, PayPal, MasterCard and Visa won’t allow it. The boycott should’ve been extended to all of those companies.

We either need to break up all those companies and/or create an open standard for money transfer that would allow both sides to use different services. Like an
#ActivityPub/#fediverse for financial services.
