I know Microsoft is doing a lot better, but has it reached the point where startups have to worry about it as a competitor (which was the sense of dead I meant)? I haven't noticed that happening among founders I've talked to.

Sure, online spreadsheets for example are a perennial startup idea. Airtable seems to have executed particularly well.
