SV companies have all highly praised principles "don't be evil", "we protect your privacy", "bring the world closer together", etc. People start seeing a disconnect between mission statements and reality. A statement like "we don't do business with murderers" would be welcome.

Guy, keep quiet for a second and read what Paul is saying. You're just talking without reading. He's not entirely absolving tech companies of responsibility. He's saying the media should point out the fact that they themselves aren't clean as they portray themselves.
