I bet I've heard 100 startups explain why they failed to raise money, and I don't think I've heard one say that the reason was that their company seemed unpromising. And yet that is almost always the reason in the investors' minds.

Yep. The advice have been giving for over 20 years is 1. play customer. Search for your pain. 2. Google, fb groups, reddit, etc. 3. Shows u if people are searching what they're searching for & where they're searching for it. 4. Now you know if there's market & where2 Market

Maybe bc they were all told to go find problems in a market and solve it. I think it's rare they actually solve their own problems and create products around it (ala Dropbox). They're rarely actually their own target market.
