They are unrelated. I would say GSE is more carefully poised and academic, GGS was more pop.

I'll have to read more of them! I read it ages ago and still think about the arguments; "founders" as originally meant. I enjoyed the presentation of the thesis AND the experience of reading the roughly equal area given to both primary text and footnotes
