For startups with *employees* the number one cost is people. But in the beginning there are only founders, and they can work cheap. In our startup, in 1995, practically all the cost initially was infrastructure.
Try building an ISP in the early 90s!
Shouldn't the founders' salary (or lack of) still be considered the main cost since they could otherwise have a job / be earning money?
In the beginning, there were only Founders. Then they said, Let there be Employees. And Employees there were. And They looked upon what they had made and they saw that it was Good.
My small business had one free full time employee. Then Added more hours and it had one full time and one part time employee.
