One thing you learn about programming from experience is how much code it should take to do something. So an experienced programmer will be suspicious of code that yields correct results but seems too long. A novice only knows it yields correct results.

IDEs pose many temptations in this regard. Singlestep through 100+ lines instead of formulating a hypothesis and place a println to validate, "jump to definition" instead of structuring the modules, "auto add import" instead of thinking about your dependencies...
