This is why you should work on things you naturally think about in the shower.

        1) Heavy conscious effort -> slides the conscious-unconscious gateway to a particular focal point. 2) Rest/nap/walk/meditate/shower -> opens the constricting gateway. 3) Let the unconscious pour forth, where the conscious is primed to make sense of (previous) randomness.

In cognitive psychology, this phenomenon is called "Incubation effect". This can be used to tackle problems that we get stuck with (in a local optimum) and your brain will go through a wide traversal of solution space when you’re ‘resting’ and getting to a global optimum.

@RichardFeynman Called it (IIRC) his "12 problems". Problems he rested his brain against. And if you don't know, he's the guy who came up with the idea for the Quantum Computer. solved the Challenger crash (with covert help) and, oh, helped developed the atomic bomb.

Curious about the methods you use to get to the “friendly and persistent way” of resting against a subject. Running seems to work surprisingly well for me.

Mind For Numbers calles it "Focussed and Diffused" mode. Alternating between these is best way to make progress in thought. Btw: John Cleese is performing at DeAnza on 11/16 in case you're interested.

Like this. Reminds me of some writer who said when stuck on a problem he sleeps on it and allows the ‘night-shift’ to work and in the morning has a solution.

Not overactive but without constraints - if you consusly activate and create lots of neuronal "connections" around particular them "random" walk of thoughts will mainly go through this connections. It works best affter 😴 which clearls worst "connections"

Sounds cool! Have to catch up on the subject! 🙏🏽 I was referring to visual, verbal and other cues that trigger impulsive/habitual thoughts that kind of behave like unwanted programs that keep computers busy draining available energy/bandwidth!
