If you're the best, your competitors will lie about you and/or themselves. They have no choice. They can't say "we're inferior, but choose us anyway."

Another possible lie is about the problem space. They’ll never say “we’re the best at X but what you really need is Y”.

The best accounts people will tell you need Y. Long term being trusted is more valuable than a single sale. When they move from company X to company Y people will still buy from them. Trust is a coin that can only be spent once, but always pays dividends when held.
