The year after my dad died was so bad I don't remember 90% of it. I moved to a new apt and was unable to unpack. For MONTHS. I was ashamed I couldn't unpack. How can you be UNABLE to unpack? Just open the g.d. boxes. That was the year I cried for 19 days. Straight. /1

It’s been 6 years since I was barefoot on the railing of a bridge, in the rain, literally holding on by a pinky, just hoping I’d slip. I had beautiful kids. A loving family. Friends. A good job, great money. And here’s the damn fool truth of it:

Some thoughts for on Anthony Bourdain. We've got twin babies here in the house; sleep is minimal. I hope you'll read with forgiving eyes. Now comes the deep sadness.

I think many Americans are anxious about international travel—foreign languages, new food, new customs. Anthony Bourdain made people excited to go experience new cultures.

  8. We've gone official Stay Alive day. Not expecting much from myself except numbing out on social media, letting water fall from my eyes, and thinking about how I can keep trying to be a lady Anthony Bourdain while keeping my insides tolerable.

  10. Bourdain never treated our food like he "discovered" it. He kicked it with grandma because he knew that HE was the one that needed to catch up to our brilliance. I wish so much for his legacy to take hold in western (mostly white) food media culture. What a loss. I'm so sad.

Anthony Bourdain lost his struggle with his inner demons. From a distance, his life seemed exotic. Beautiful. Wildly successful. It’s a stark reminder that our inner life can be very different from what others see. Remember you’re not alone. Get help. 1-800-273-8255

  12. When people achieve great success at a young age it's inspiring, but the fact that Anthony Bourdain got his big break at 44 is something I think about often for motivation. I'll always look to him as a reminder that it's never too late for your second act. RIP

If you’re saddened or shocked by Bourdain’s or Spade’s suicide and you run a team, you have an enormous gift: ask each of them privately if they’re doing ok, and tell them they are valued. It goes further than you realize.

I really loved watching and listening to Anthony Bourdain. He was smart and sexy and I envied him being able to travel the world to eat. I wish people who are struggling inside could bring themselves to tell someone they are full of anguish or pain. Hope is reachable.

Welcome to Heaven, Anthony Bourdain. That’s right, you got into Heaven because you were a good person. Come, we’ve prepared a feast with all your favorite Earth food, plus some delicious stuff from other galaxies you haven’t tried yet.
