I totally agree with these sentiments, I really like the term Dev Assistant. FWIW I was QA Manager at Rockstar Leeds for a number of years, this position helped me to understand how to work with folk from all facets of the biz at every level, I value that time immensely.https://twitter.com/TheCartelDel/status/1299409323274141699 …

I avoid the term QA. I was a Senior Test Lead for a few years, and always referred to my department as Test. SEGA referred to testers as 'Functionality Testers', 'Compliance Testers', 'Language Testers' etc. "What does Test think?" I think that sounded much better than 'QA'...

See we didn’t like the term test, for the same reason many don’t like QA. A subjective one it would seem.

Indeed! SEGA tried to rename the Test Lead role to "Project Monitor" for that reason, but it didn't go down very well, as no one could recognise what the role entailed. They shortly reverted back to "Functionality Test Lead". Ultimately, it's down to how they're treated...

They renamed the QA department to "Development Support Department" too. All to try and step away from the games tester image that Test usually has. It was only until they started treating the Senior Testers and Leads the same as other staff did things start to change.

What about DAQ? The department for assuring quality. I prefer to use QA over testing. Testing, a machine can do. QA is s bigger umbrella that should encapsulate more than testing alone.

Yeah that was how I felt back when we used QA.
