The number of projects I have seen where one section does 10x as much as they have to so that the other sections can avoid a minor inconvenience blows my mind. It's why our industry is so backwards.

It sounded like the lead mercurial developer was a little bit wanting to pretend python 3 wasn't happening. That they only finished last year is mind blowing.

Basically acceded the point that they redeveloped six. Also complained there is still no format() for byte strings in modern Python. Obviously has shipped massively more code than me, but resistance to byte-streams is so strong!
